I like how the device is "out of the box" by default set up to do a basic recording with little human intervention (just press the record button). This is very useful for the 99% of people who do not read user guides and just need technology to work without a lot of thought.

For power users, having the ability to set up and test recording levels and recording and playback features is also nice. For these users, being able to save out and load presets makes managing multiple devices easier to deal with (on the model of an IT department "image" that is easy to deploy). I also like the thought put into the physical inputs and outputs, so that the device can be easily installed as part of a larger archival system, or augmented with additional speakers to play back audio directly to a larger audience. I thought the recording and playback quality was actually quite good. We tested this with a lot of background noise, and you can clearly hear the intended speaker both with and without the in room noise cancellation feature. Being able to select a noise cancellation feature is really nice, as I'm sure that a lot of spaces these devices are used in are not always great for recording anything.
