On the Road with the PSD300

For the past six months I have had the pleasure of using the PSD300 on the road and at my recording studio in Philadelphia. As a professional musician, educator, composer and producer, the PSD300 has become an invaluable tool of the trade for me. As the musical director for the David Liebman Big Band, the Manhattan Saxophone Ensemble as well as my own jazz group, I find myself "on the road" a lot playing venues throughout the US. I have found the PSD300 to be a reliable and sonically accurate recording device. 

Whether using the internal microphone or another microphone through the phantom powered inputs, it is ideal for recording rehearsals and gigs. As a composition and transcription tool, I can quickly and easily record my compositional ideas, and in the recording studio I can use the recorder as a reference source. With both a CD player and burner, it also makes copying a CD a fast and easy operation.

Whether I am doing an artist residency for a few days at a school or at the University of Toledo teaching with the great vocalist Jon Hendricks, the PSD300 has become one of my most valuable teaching aids. I have found the unit to be simple and flexible. It allows me to record a student's lesson and use it as a play-along that can easily change tempo without changing the key, and change key without changing the tempo. Bravo! This same flexibility also makes transcribing and duplicating the great jazz masters' solos more accessible to young students of jazz. Even John Coltrane's "Sheets of Sound" can be slowed down enough to make them and play along.
