Beth Ertz on Recording, Transcription and Choreography

"Teachers brought in some of their favorite dance CDs that they’ve always wanted to choreograph dances to, but the tempos weren’t quite right... ...they saw how very simple it is to adjust the tempo to taste."

"One teacher looked at the Quick Start Guide and brought in vocal CDs and asked me to use the voice reduction feature.  She loved these particular songs, but didn’t want the association of the lyrics to color the dance." by Beth Ertz {more from Beth Ertz

If you often use prerecorded music for dance rehearsals or performance, you’ll want to learn more about Superscope’s new portable CD Recorders and Sound Systems for the Performing Arts. These innovative new products break the boundaries that limit other CD players.

To begin with, the PSD340 is an innovative stand-alone MP3/CD Player and CD Recorder that can dramatically slow or increase the tempo (beats-per-minute) of any CD without distorting the music's original key, unlike "pitch control" found on some CD players. True tempo control has a range of -75% to +50%, compared with the -10% to +10% limitation of "pitch control" which inadvertently changes key or pitch along with the beats per minute.

Turn a fast-tune into a slow number. Speed up a ballad. Now you can practice dance steps along with the music, by slowing it down to your student's learning pace. Then speed it up as they improve.

Superscope PAC750/770 sound systems provide distortion-free, professional quality sound. Poor sound from the wrong playback source can distract from even the best routine. That’s why Superscope sound products provide rich, booming bass as well as high end clarity, so that every note rings true. The PAC770 is a complete amplified sound system, so all you need are speakers.

Key Features:

  • Dramatically slow the tempo of any CD, and as the beats-per-minute decrease the music’s key remains unchanged.
  • "Loops" Select a portion of music to continuously repeat until you’re ready to move on.
  • 10-second audio buffer prevents skips caused by vibrations or shocks.
  • RC300 Optional miniature remote can be worn on a wrist strap or necklace and provides start/stop, track increment, and tempo control.
  Beth Ertz

Beth Ertz enjoys wearing several very different hats, changing them according to the world currently being inhabited. In Los Angeles, she worked for 20 years orchestrating and arranging for Elmer Bernstein and many other film composers, as well as composing her own scores for film and television.

As the film music world became more electronically oriented, Beth slowly built her own studio, using it for recording and record production as well as film scoring. In 2004, her arrangements and production were nominated for 3 Grammys.

Beth has written arrangements for the Academy Awards and for many live concert and recording artists, including Barbra Streisand, Willie Nelson, Placido Domingo, Lionel Hampton and several Pops orchestras.

As an accompanist, Beth has played for Bernadette Peters, Robert Goulet, Bette Midler and many others. She has recently moved to the New York City area to become more active in the musical theatre, cabaret and dance worlds. She brought her studio (Pilotone Music) and her 2 dogs with her and continues to accompany and arrange for singers and now for Broadway composers and dancers, as well as doing an occasional film.
